Sara Barielles, you minx. The above song is quite catchy, and is already making its way up the charts. Her newest album, Kaleidoscope Heart is number one. Her newest music video, 'King of Anything' is lovely and artistic. I especially love the 'forks-instead-of-piano-keys' look. For someone who was dead off the mainstream music scene for a little, its safe to say that she is definitely back. One of her most popular songs was 'Love Song':



Sound familiar? It was featured in many movie soundtracks... I can see why, questioning and really catchy. Its a rare find, someone who can write music, and perform it. Sara Barielles does both well, especially the writing lyrics part.

Birth of a Legend

3-year-old Michael in 1961

Today, Michael Jackson would have been 52 if he were still alive.

Michael lived a sad, hard, yet very succesful life. At the age of four, he was thrusted into the Jackson 5. His talent was evident from a young age.

The Jackson brothers practiced for hours every day and won local talent contests before they got signed to a record label. During this time they took regular beatings from their father, Joe; he would strip them down and have them rubbed in oil before he beat them with a whip. Joe was a nasty, strict businessman. He made no effort to hide Michael from adult things; thus ruining his innocence. Michael and his brothers would often perform at nightclubs where strippers were present. Sometimes I get teary-eyed thinking about his childhood.

Finally in 1968, they got signed to Motown records and were now performing as The Jackson 5.

Taylor Momsen: High Class Hooker

Back in April, we did the first 'Tunes Tuesday (aka, an excuse for missing Music Monday).' The first Tunes Tuesday featured the first single of upcoming singer Taylor Momsen. This (now) 17 year old girl has captured the hate of many Gossip Girl fans out there, portraying the snobby and rude little Jenny Humphrey. But fret not, her role on the show is no longer (for now), and by the time being.... shes singing, and doing a kick ass job.

This is when we first blogged about her featuring her song, Make Me Wanna Die. Her band, The Pretty Reckless, was a headliner in the Warped Tour this year, travelling around North America and jammin with bands like All Time Low, Sum 41, The All American Rejects, and others.

Momsen is currently working on her full length album with Paramore producer Kato Khandwala, and is expected to come out soon. Her EP, came out June 22nd and caught the eye of big radio stations up in the UK. Here she is doing her own rendetion of 'Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem/Rihanna and 'Islands' by The XX at Radio 1's Live Lounge.

Although she runs her mouth a lot for a 17 year old in the music industry, shes got the talent and pipes to back it up. If she wasn't dissing the likes of Rihanna and pop sensation Miley Cyrus, then she'd be a lot more popular. But heck, we still love her here at Mustart!

Happy Birthday, Madonna

Today is Madonna's 52nd Birthday! We will have a tribute post in her honour and it will double as Music Monday.

I really love Madonna. She is a favourite. For 30 years, this bitch has been kicking ass, winning the hearts of people from many generations. All this from a woman who lost her mother to cancer at the age of 5, had to take care of herself and her siblings, and had to work hard at everything else; she was a straight-A student! And at 19 she made the bravest move of her life: she relocated to New York with no more than $35 in her pocket.

Second best is never enough, you'll do much better baby on your own.

This is a photo from Interview Magazine, which was shot a few months back. I know this image has been photoshopped to hell and back, but those abs are REAL. Her skin is saggy and it's been airbrushed to make it look like it's young and smooth...it's not. She's still old, no matter what, and age will have an effect on her skin. But the muscles are real! She works hard at her body. At 52, Madonna has abs. I will have a lot of things at 52 but abs won't be one of them.

The Monster Ball.

(I totally should have blogged about this way earlier, but better late than never.)

On Sunday, July 11th,

I attended Lady Gaga's Monster Ball in Toronto.

Best. Musical. Experience. EVER.

I attended with my mom and my cousin. We had VIP Floor Tickets so we were standing right in front; practically a perfect view, until she got to the catwalk, where we only saw her ass.


Everyone should attend a Lady Gaga concert at least once in their lifetimes. I say this confidently because I caught my mom smiling, dancing, and singing along to the lyrics many times throughout the night (and she wasn't too excited about going because she thought she'd be attending a "satanic porn show", but later on told me she thought it was in fact "very decent" in regards to the suggestiveness).

The show has a storyline with elements from Wizard of Oz and her own past in New York. Her and her friends are trying to find their way to the Monster Ball and must overcome a set of obstacles to make it to their final destination. There's music, dialogue, as well as some personal talk from Lady Gaga to the audience and her Little Monsters.

Before we start with the tsunami of kick-ass pictures, I'm just going to let you know that I didn't take these. While I enjoyed my time yelling, dancing, and watching Gaga, my lovely mother took all the pictures for me. And they turned out DAMN GOOD too.

When doors opened, Gaga's good friend from New York was DJing. Lady Starlight used to Go-Go Dance with Gaga before she was famous; they wore indian headdresses, lit hairspray on fire, and danced to heavy metal tracks. Starlight was so energetic, and girl got good taste in music! She was spinning classic rock records on vinyl--yup, vinyl, not some electronic DJ crap.

Then came the opening act: Semi Precious Weapons. Also friends of Gaga from New York, these glam rockers are on a mission to bring Rock N Roll back. Justin Tranter spat champagne at the crowd!

And then, at 9:00,

there she was: Gaga in all her glamorous glory.

She started the show off with a track she only performs live: Glitter and Grease.

Her ass was so close, I felt like I could grab it.

Now I should probably let you know what I was doing while all this took place. Well, each time she came around to my side of the stage and took a glance at me, I gave her the middle finger. Yup, that's right, I flipped my idol off. Why? I don't really know. But I think it has something to do with the fact that she has a fascination of her own with flipping people off, so I decided to give it back to her, I suppose. I was secretly hoping she'd give the finger back to me, but that never happened. (Although, she did glare at me a few times, and even pointed at me!)

No One Man Should Have All That POWER.

Hey folks! This is our first blog post in a long while. Sorry for being so dead. But we're back, I can ensure you this much.

This monday, I knew I HAD to share this video with you guys for Music Monday. I love the song, too. I really do. But the video is spectacular.

Kanye West's Power

I am completely blown away by this masterpiece! Kanye collaborated with artist/director Marco Brambilla.

After he saw 'Civilization', a video that Brambilla made for The Standard [Hotel], Kanye blogged about it, and then became interested in working with him on the video for Power.

Brambilla explained that he thought of the song as "a symbol, an icon of power about to fall, like an emperor about to fall." He describes the video as "a video portrait of Kanye as this symbol of power." On the inspiration for the video, he says "I think the visual inspiration for me was definitely the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel; they are kind of bombastic and iconic." The inspiration is quite evident, since "Power" looks very much like a reinaissance painting.

Kanye makes a bounty of crazy decisions; half good, half bad. Maybe it's a little stupid to exchange your bottom row of teeth for diamonds, but he has always proven himself as a great artist. He's experimental with his music, his visuals, and his overall image. Especially fashion-wise; can we give this boy an award for being the best-dressed rapper? Recall: my personal favourite, the denim-on-denim look.

As we have stated a hundred times already, Mustart has been dead, and you can blame school for that. We still have another two weeks until we're done. :(

But Alejandro just came out today! I couldn't help but ditch my school work for one night to blog about this. Oh I love Lady Gaga so much. So so so much. Huge fan over here, yup. In fact I'll be seeing her live at the Monster Ball on July 11. Excited! ♥

Gaga's latest 9-minute masterpiece was directed by the art genius Steven Klein.
Klein, who is a photographer, has a long list of clients, including but not limited to Interview Magazine, V Magazine, Vogue, GQ, POP, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, D&G, Yves Saint Laurent, and the magnificent Madonna. He is well known for his eerie, vulgar, homoerotic imagery he uses in his photography, which evidently maneuvered it's way into the Alejandro video.

Immediately, I had to take matters into my own hands and dissect this video to the best of my ability. You gotta love this woman for her ambiguity; she never limits herself as an artist. She manages to take songs that seemingly have one literal meaning, and twists them through her performances and music videos.

I haven't had the chance to fully comprehend this video as of yet, there's still much to fish out and discover.

Here we go.

Starting off, the video opens with a group of gay men marching together as an army of soldiers. My belief is that they are marching together as united individuals who have a war to win with religious groups in society and the government, who do not accept them and thus, discriminate.

Music Monday. I feel absolutely terrible about the long hiatus. I haven't blogged since... beginning of May. So heres my REVIVAL. Only, I'll probably be dead again until after the school-hectic-craze-faze is done.

A lot of artists out there use music as their muse, to find inspiration and ideas, or even just to "zone out" from the outside world. I, as a photographer/writer/wanna-be love to listen to Techno and house music while snapping or writing. It gives me a THRILLLLLLLLL that urges me to think with ease.

I have been neglecting the blog and I feel so bad. School has been killing Fatty Feliux and I, and it will continue to do so until the end of June when exams are over...sigh. But we'll try to blog as much as possible 'til then. Sorry for being slow, loves. x
